The 46th recipe I made for the Cook the Book Fridays group using the Everyday Dorie cookbook by Dorie Greenspan is Apple Custard Crisp, it can be found on page 276.
Ingredients: flour, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, butter, vanilla, apples, lemon, cream, egg, rum, and vanilla. (Ice cream or whipped cream for serving optional.)
This crisp recipe is different than our family one from my childhood that I have been making all of my married life. That one involves oatmeal in the topping and no custard-like addition. This recipe was good and I will probably make it again sometime, the little custard addition was very tasty and complimented the apples nicely. We opted to just have it plain without the optional ice cream or whipped cream as the custard made it sweet enough for us.
