Hello, it's been awhile...I know, I know. Yesterday was Tuesday and, as always, on Tuesdays, I think of my baking friends who I have baked and cooked with over the years since joining that original Baking From My Home to Yours group of bakers. And so much has happened since those early days...not just to me, but to many of us...very few of us are in the same places we were back then. But still, on Tuesdays I think of the Doristas and today I decided I wanted to bake one of the recipes chosen by the Dorie's Cookies group this month. And, yes, it's Wednesday, but I decided not to let that stop me. So, I might be back, and I might not be back...we shall see how it goes.
Sebastian's Remarkably Wonderful Brownies (pages 30-32 in Dorie's Cookies, you can also find it here online) was one of the choices for February...a good place to start as my husband loves brownies, a chocolatey treat would certainly be welcome.
Ingredient list: all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, unsalted butter, sugar, salt, vanilla, and eggs. All the usual suspects lined up and ready to roll.
Everything went together smoothly...it was comforting and relaxing to be rattling measuring cups and spoons and firing up the stand mixer like I actually do this regularly instead of what it truly is...that I haven't baked in months...seriously, months. Okay, a little at Christmas, but seriously months before that for certain. I love Dorie's recipes, they always work out for me exactly as she says they will, they are always a hit with the people here who eat the results, and they make me feel so accomplished.
The result was a soft-centered brownie that was "more cake-like than some," which apparently is a good thing as Mark knocked back three of them with hardly time to breathe between each one. Of course, that might be because, like I said, it's been months and months since the poor guy has been gifted baked goods from my kitchen. I would love to report that these were fabulous, and I think they probably were, Mark certainly enjoyed them, but, if you know me at all, you know I don't do chocolate. So on behalf of those here who do chocolate, these were very very good and worthy of many repeats.
