Since the Tuesdays with Dorie: Baking with Julia
group posts on alternate Tuesdays, I thought maybe I could use the "off
Tuesdays" to post rewinds that they have already made and that I missed
out on along the way.
The recipe I made this week is Blueberry-Nectarine Pie on page 384 of Baking with Julia. You can also find the recipe on the blogs of the hostesses for this week, Liz of That Skinny Chick Can Bake, click here for the recipe, and Hilary of Manchego's Kitchen, click here. The recipe was contributed to the book by baker Leslie Mackie.
Pies are always a hit around here with Mark, his favorite dessert is
pie. The pie was delicious, I made a half size (7") as one only needs
so much pie in a given week as he is basically the only one around here
eating it. This is an excellent recipe for both crust and filling. I don't usually like to use shortening but it worked out okay in this recipe. The
combination of blueberries and nectarines is delicious...my nectarines
sort of disappeared in the cooking process so the predominant taste was
blueberry, which is not a bad thing. Since we precooked the fruit a bit, my filling did get a little loose and juicy, I should have added less lemon juice maybe, but it all firmed up with a stint in the refrigerator overnight. The taste was really wonderful. Definitely a repeat would be in
order.
