The recipe chosen this week for CEiMB, using Ellie Krieger's book, So Easy, was Baked Beans with Ham chosen by Danica of Danica's Daily. You can find the recipe on pages 179-180 of the book, on Danica's site, or here.
Mark loves ham and beans, something he brought with him from his childhood. My family made them as well, but I never really ate them as they always served them over cornbread and at the time, that was too many ingredients "touching" for my palate. I would like to say that things have changed considerably, but they have not...I am still more about food not touching too much on a plate or palate.
That said, I ate these baked beans and ham of Ellie's and they were good. I didn't put them on cornbread or anything, but by themselves they are good and have a little bit of a barbecue flavor to them which is different and nice, well, I guess that is because they are a take on baked beans rather than just ham and beans.
Repeat? Yes, probably so, and I will still make and serve the cornbread on the side so those who can will and those who don't want to don't. It's all about compromise, right? Right.
Next week's assignment is White Turkey Chili from Ellie's book So Easy, on page 189, chosen by Leslie of Lethally Delicious. You can find the CEiMB blogroll here.
