Today's photo is one of those cute little things my husband does that makes me love and appreciate him more the longer I know him. I was very busy getting ready to leave for Bloomington for a five day stay last week and thinking that I should really shop and fix food for Mark and Alex while we were gone so they would not have to scrounge about each day. Mark said, "You don't have to do a thing for us, we have it all taken care of, you just concentrate on getting everything done for you and Matt to leave and leave the rest to us." How sweet was that? As I was getting ice from the freezer before we walked out the door, I saw what you are seeing in this photo...his answer for taking care of it all...Pizza phone numbers and coupons. I just chuckled and left town thinking what a prince he was...he was willing to eat pizza several times so that I could not worry about fixing them food before I left. Yep, he's a keeper.
READING: Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin...it won the Pulitzer Prize, but I am certain you all are not going to count this as my "reading fare easily recognizable by the general public." Too bad...it's a good one. I am having to share it with Mark as he has been taking forever with this book, and since he leaves it by his chair each day...well, the temptation is just overwhelming and I have been helping myself, being careful not to get too far ahead so when he reads it, it still has that nice crisp clean fresh turn of a page and all. While a bit of chocolate sitting about doesn't tempt me, historical reading fodder always does. It's good he knew that about me before we married. Sacrificing reading material at will has always been a part of the compromising around here. On the other hand, he never has to share his chocolates.
POOLSIDE READING: Psyche sheets...swim programs...heat sheets...you know, real POOLSIDE reading.
LISTENING TO: John Mayer...trying to figure out what all the fuss is about...maybe...still not sold.
COOKING THROUGH: Le Cordon Bleu at Home (Le Cordon Bleu School of Cooking); Baking: From My Home to Yours (Dorie Greenspan)
FAV NEW FIND: The mattress stitch for sewing my completed knitted items together...thanks, Lin! I have had to slow down a bit on the knitting with all this running around we do in the summers, so it felt really good to get to the shop and learn something new for my knitting jones. Quilting, I have decided, needs to be on hold for finishing up until the boys are back in school...quilting is not portable for me at this point.
FAV THING TODAY; Matt took off time in the 50 Freestyle at Senior State...we always love a new best time.
GOING TO: Spend the weekend at the Senior State Swimming championships keeping our fingers crossed for a new best 100 Backstroke time with a Junior National cut attached.
PRAYING FOR: Everyone traveling, especially Nan, Alex, David, Jonathan, and Chad; Samantha in California; Shari in Canada; Kathy, Al, Michael, Jacob, and Christopher embarking upon a five month stay in Abu Dhabi, and really for all the kids and families on the road this summer...everyone seems to be going somewhere all the time. Please join me.
