I know, you all saw the title of this and thought it was going to be family reunion news, right? (Baker being my maiden name and all.) But, no, this is a different sort of round up.
Susan (click on her name to view the site) has sent out a request for TWD bakers, and others, to consider baking a homemade baked good once a month to send to our servicemen in the Middle East. She is coordinating it as the first shipment is going to someone she personally knows who reads her blog and commented about the soldiers really missing baked goods they used to have at home.
Each month the serviceman selected will receive the boxes and then divide them up there. Susan saw this as an opportunity to...well, serve! Serve up baked goods, that is...and it sounded like a fine thing to do. I'm in. She is hoping that if we all post about it, others will take up the whisk and bowl and participate in this very worthy endeavor.
The photo is my first entry, Irresistible Brownies, from the Nestle site linked below.
If you would like to bake for our troops also, please visit Susan's site and send her an email indicating such...she will guide you from there.
Please note: there are several restrictions to baking goods for servicemen. The Nestle Baking Company site has them posted, so I will direct you to click here for the baking restrictions (and acceptable recipes are also found on this link), and also on the site is a click for the US Postal requirements regarding baked goods entering the Middle East. It just makes things a whole lot easier if you know this straight up and are willing to factor these things into your contributions.
Make a difference: Bake!
