This is a photo my sister Karen sent of her neighbor's house (Karen's house is to the rear and the right, so you can't see it in the photo). It was taken showing what they are now dealing with via the flood waters in Cedar Rapids. This is a post written by her as I figure she can just be the guest-writer-poster as what she is dealing with is way more important than anything I am likely to post today. You will see, that despite everything, she is managing to look on the bright side and see the funny bits, i.e. she has probably tons of damage at her house, but her brand new stove is safe! So, here's Karen's post:
Update from Iowa ..... 85% of Iowa is declared a Disaster Area. I am sure everyone has seen it on the news. Fortunately for the Cedar Rapids area the water is going down! I have seen pictures of my neighborhood and the water has gone down by my house. Unfortunately it is not safe to go in yet so I am trying to be patient. I lived in Davenport on the Mississippi River for 25 years and have never seen anything like this!
I thank God that I am safe and my dogs are safe. I also thank God that I work for such a wonderful company (UPS) that is helping me in any way they can. I am counting my blessings for the things I do have left and concentrating on that. And hey ... when I finally get everything cleaned up ... I have a brand new stove .... a fancy one with the griddle in the middle... I'm excited about that!
We need lots of prayers for the people in Columbus Junction .... the Iowa River and Cedar River meet there and I don't know if that little town will be able to survive it! We need lots of prayers for all the people that will have a hard time rebuilding their lives after this!
