Matt and Coach Ian
Yes, you heard it here first...Guerin is going to have a swim team this coming year! Yesterday we met with the Athletic Director at Guerin and it is definitely a "go." So, those of you who know Matthew can say that you now know the ENTIRE Guerin Swim Team! Seriously...he is going to be the entire team. Since we won't be able to show up with one swimmer at a dual meet, he is allowed from 1-4 invitational meets, which he will attend with his coach. His coach will be Ian, his USA team coach and more than likely the invitationals will all be ones the Carmel High School attends and they will just slide Matt in on the end of the bench wearing his Golden Eagle apparel...an Eagle among all the Greyhounds. He will continue to swim with the USA club, the Carmel Swim Club, that he has been swimming with these past 8 years, but during the high school season he will be listed as swimming for Guerin since they don't have a coach or a pool, etc. At any rate, the idea of the invitationals would be to qualify for sectionals, etc. and hopefully have state cuts to swim at state at the high school level. He will also be swimming club. So, now all of you who are asking me weekly, "What is Matt going to do about high school swimming since Guerin doesn't have a swim team?" This is the answer: "Now, they do!"
