Yep, there's a whole lotta action goin' on all right over here...the Harry Potter kind. From the kickoff party on Friday night, to the midnight purchases, through Saturday (no swim meet, so what's a swim family to do?), and well into the night, Harry and his cohorts have been receiving top billing around here.
There's also been a lot of birthday action here this weekend. This is the year Mark, his dad, and Matthew all roll over the "5s" in July. Emil turned 85, Mark turned 55, and Matthew will be turning 15 next week.
Everyone made it up to Elwood for celebration yesterday except brother Luke. Emil and Mark were not all that excited about reaching their milestones, but Matthew cannot wait until his birthday as with it comes the long-awaited Driver's Permit. Normally I would be a little sad at milestones such as these...well, sad and happy, of course. This particular one, however, I am absolutely ecstatic over as it means one more step until that child has his driver's license and I need not ever see another 5:00 a.m. swim practice! This thrills him to no end because it means that he will have sole possession of a car and keys when that magical time arrives. This, he is thinking, is reason enough to be a swimmer. It is also true, however, that nagging in the back of my mind, I am hearing that old adage..."Be careful what you wish, or you will surely get it." (Better appreciate those 5:00 a.m. times with him while I can...they are on the whole, wonderful times where just the two of us are up and about organizing the day and discussing bits and pieces that only the two of us care about...and this year with him at school all day for the first time, I think those 5:00 a.m. times are going to mean even more.) Yep, better appreciate all the action goin' on around here while I can...time is passing quickly.
