The Holly and The Ivy

       Of all the things we have planted in our yard, I think my favorites are the three holly bushes, one of which is shown here with a dusting of snow from earlier in the week. 

      We have three because the first year we planted two, and as it turned out, they were two female bushes.  With just female bushes, you do not get the red berries, so the next spring we planted a third bush, this time a male, and we now have lovely bushes with beautiful berries. 

      I call them The Two Hollys and The Barry and they make me smile every time I see them, which is often as they flank our front walk just outside the front door.  I like that they stay green all year and the little red berries add a brightness to winter days.
